To follow up on the Haze post, Shoe is another aerosol pioneer who keeps taking his arts, concepts and ideas to unusual places, thus presenting the Unruly scarves. As it reads on the website: "Traditional silk scarves with untraditional designs and traditional shapes from an untraditional designer". That pretty much sums up what it's about. These high quality scarves with unique artwork by Shoe can be purchased at Reed Space, Colette and Unruly, among others.

Haze x Lotus

Our friend Haze hit me up on the email earlier with some dopeness he has been working on. Last month Eric got busy with the legendary handskills he is known for and painted a Lotus Exige (that is a quite sporty 50,000 euro automobile for those who don't know) for the 10th anniversary of the highly addictive videogame "Gran Turismo". If you're into Haze's works, the car, or both, and you got it like that, feel free to visit your bookmarks and hit up Ebay as the car is up for auction right now, with the proceeds going to a charity benefiting "Studio in a School" in the Lower East Side of Manhattan. For the less wealthy among us there's always a free url!

After laughter come tears

Break out the tissuebox, the kid named Parra is stepping his exhibition game up once again with "Parra's Boo to the Hoo Show". The date is December 5th, the place is the Lazy Dog Gallery in Paris, France. I've seen some work in progress, expect some surprising new works and random foolery.

The Force

Not a Star Wars post, even though I am a huge fan. The Force is a brand new lifestyle magazine from Japan initiated by our friend Ewan Reynolds (Playford) and his crew. Now those familiar with Japanese print media know they take magazines seriously, their market and variety is probably one of the biggest in the world, even in this tech savvy internet era. What makes The Force stand out in the vast sea of dedicated magazines is the unique mix of content, tastefully covering fashion, food, travel, sports, health, arts, entertainment and more.

This premiere issue which is available at Japanese newsstands right now, features famous allround guy Yosuke Kubozuka, great Roppongi food spots, the Amsterdam city guide Ewan was in town for a little while ago, with articles about Nike, Delta, Patta, Mejiro Gym, Parra and gravure model Yukina Kinoshita, among others. If you get the chance to grab a copy it's 780 yen well spent yeah!

The Gift of Musicmusic

Aside from selling, distributing and releasing music, my friend Chris from Rush Hour got a new project going on alongside Meik de Swaan called Musicmusic, which focuses on music and sound design for radio, television, internet and such. Together with another friend of ours, graphic artist and legendary graffiti king Niels "Shoe" Meulman, they have created a limited edition compilation cd entitled "Knockknock". The cd comes in a silkscreened, hand numbered, lp sized, heavy carton book. It's the first edition of a series where concept, music and art comes together. Each volume addresses a different theme. Both music and artwork are devoted to the theme. The deluxe box will be handed out to a selected group of art directors and advertising creatives in order to get them (re)familiarized with Musicmusic. There's only a hundred made, so I reckon it will be a pain in the ass to squeeze one out of them (long pause). However, you can also listen the first thirty minutes of the mix online right here.

RH meets DJ Wessun

The other night while on a neverending quest checking out and learning about new and/or interesting music through the www (unfortunateIy I don't get to dig much these days), I bumped into a mix album by DJ Wessun of Do-Hyo Orizin, a very dope Hip Hop collective from the Osaka prefecture in Japan.

What's more, the cd was produced to commemorate Amsterdam's Rush Hour recordstore's 10th anniversary (they're situated right behind Patta by the way) and the cover art is done by the homie Delta. Since I slept and the cd has been out for a while, I hit up my man Christiaan (who is one of the owners) and he hooked me up with a copy today, and it's dope!

I love it when DJ's get creative with original mixing, skillfully weaving a selection of music into a unique soundscape. Not too many DJ's are able to create such mixes while piqueing my interest throughout the entire listen (shout to J-Rocc!), but that doesn't apply here. Try to grab yourself a copy!

Our pals Dre Urhahn and Jeroen Koolhaas (not sure if he's related to Rem, are you?) are doing great things over in Rio de janeiro these days. Their latest well covered (no pun intend) project is a +2000 square meter painting of a Japanese style river based on a design by master tattooist Rob Admiraal. Dre and Jeroen got together with the kids from the community of Vila Cruzeiro, the most infamous favela project in Rio, to paint the entire thing which will be unveiled October 18th followed by a huge blockparty. Furthermore, the weekend of the 17th til the 19th there will be an opening party which includes a photo exhibition and video installations. more information about this project to be found on the website.

Most have heard of the names Bill Bowerman and Phil Knight, but Geoff Hollister, probably not so much, or at least I haven't. Geoff was Phil's track student and third pick Blue Ribbon Sports employee who began selling product out the trunk, humble beginnings-style. The rest, as they say, is history. The book "Out of Nowhere: The Inside Story of How Nike Marketed the Culture of Running" provides delightful insights as it takes the reader along in Geoff's 33 year ride with the company. I haven't been able to read it yet, but I recommend it anyway!
